Why flooded cars are worth selling quickly
Water damage is the one problem that gets materially worse with time. Corrosion spreads through connectors and grounds, mould establishes itself in the carpet, foam, and headliner, and electronic modules that survived the first week begin failing in the second and third. A car pulled and sold promptly is worth noticeably more than the same car after a month in a driveway with the windows up.
Houston has taught everyone here this lesson repeatedly — Harvey, Imelda, Beryl, and every unnamed storm that puts water over the curb on the west side. We have bought vehicles after all of them. Whether yours took water to the floorboards or over the dash, whether it still starts or has not turned over since, and whether your insurer paid out or denied the claim, it is worth a phone call before it sits any longer.
What we need to know
- Roughly how high the water reached — rocker panel, seat cushion, dash
- Whether it was fresh water or brackish or salt water
- Whether the engine was running or was cranked afterwards
- How long it has been since the flooding
- Whether the insurer settled, denied, or was never involved

Questions people actually ask
Do you buy flood cars that still run?
Yes, and those are often worth the most. A flooded car that still starts and drives has usable mechanical value, but it is on a clock — electrical faults and corrosion tend to surface over the following weeks. Selling sooner rather than later almost always means a better number.
My insurance denied the flood claim. Can I still sell?
Yes. A denied or never-filed claim does not affect our ability to buy the car, as long as you hold the title and the insurer has not taken possession. Plenty of the flood vehicles we buy were never covered for water damage in the first place.
Does it matter how deep the water was?
It matters for pricing, not for whether we will buy it. Water to the rocker panels is a very different vehicle from water over the dashboard, because the second one has almost certainly reached the wiring harness and the control modules. Give us your best estimate and we will price accordingly.
Should I try to dry it out or clean it first?
No. Do not spend money on it. Drying, shampooing, and ozone treatment rarely change what a water-damaged car is worth, and cranking a flooded engine to see whether it will start can convert an expensive problem into a total one. Leave it and call.
Do you buy cars with a Texas flood-title brand?
Yes. A flood or salvage brand on the title is ordinary in this market and does not stop the sale. Mention the brand when you call so the offer is accurate the first time.
How fast should I move after a flood?
Within days rather than weeks if you can. Corrosion, mould, and module failure all progress steadily, and every week the vehicle sits is value coming off the offer. If a storm has just passed, call early — pickup schedules fill quickly across the metro.
